👋 Who We Are
SoaR Dance Studio was founded by husband-and-wife team Emma and Charlie Hunter with a simple goal: make ballet more accessible, welcoming, and human for adults.
We believe dance should be available to everyone, regardless of age, fitness level, flexibility, experience, or background.
Our classes are designed to help adults reconnect with movement, confidence, creativity, and a version of themselves they may have lost touch with along the way.
Whether you're stepping into a studio for the first time or returning after years away, you'll be welcomed exactly as you are.

🌱What Is Fast Track Introductory Ballet?
Fast Track Introductory Ballet is our beginner pathway and the recommended starting point for most new students.
Designed specifically for adults with little or no ballet experience, Fast Track breaks ballet down into simple, approachable concepts that are easy to understand and apply.
Fast Track consists of three standalone classes: 🩰 A — Posture, Presentation & Upper Body🩰 B — Balance, Control & Stability🩰 C — Speed, Precision & Power
These classes run on a continuous rotation throughout the timetable and can be started at any time.
Most students attend one class per week and gradually work through all three sessions, though you're welcome to attend more frequently if your schedule allows.
There is no required starting point and no specific order. Simply book whichever class is coming up next and continue through the remaining sessions at your own pace.
Fast Track exists to help you build confidence, learn the fundamentals, and feel comfortable before progressing into regular ballet classes.

I've Never Danced Before
That's completely okay.
Many of our students begin with little or no dance experience at all.
Our Fast Track Introductory Ballet course was specifically designed for complete beginners and introduces ballet in a simple, supportive, and approachable way.
You do not need any previous experience to get started.

It's Been Years Since I Danced
You're not alone.
Many adults return to ballet after years or even decades away from dancing.
Whether you danced as a child, as a teenager, or simply want to reconnect with something you once loved, we'll help you rebuild confidence and find your feet again.
There's no expectation that you'll remember everything.

Am I Too Old?
No.
Adults of all ages can learn, enjoy, and benefit from ballet.
Our students range from their 20s through to their 70s, with many joining us later in life or returning after years away from dancing.
Our focus is not on becoming a professional dancer. It's about movement, learning, personal growth, confidence, and enjoying the process.

Am I Too Unfit?
No.
You do not need to be fit before starting ballet.
Many students begin after long periods away from exercise and simply build fitness, strength, balance, and coordination over time through regular attendance.
Like any new activity, it's normal to feel challenged at first.
You don't need to be fit to start. You become fitter by starting.

Am I Too Unflexible?
No.
Flexibility is not a requirement for ballet and it's certainly not a requirement for joining our classes.
Many adults begin with limited flexibility and gradually improve through consistent practice and movement.
You do not need to arrive flexible.
Flexibility is something that develops along the journey.

What If I Make Mistakes?
You will.
And so will everyone else.
Making mistakes is a normal part of learning any new skill, whether it's ballet, driving a car, learning a language, or playing an instrument.
Nobody walks into their first class knowing everything.
Progress comes from trying, practising, making mistakes, and trying again.

What If Everyone Is Better Than Me?
Some people may be.
Some people may not be.
Either way, it doesn't really matter.
When we're young, we're often taught to compare, compete, place, and win. As adults, the goal is usually very different: to learn, explore, improve, connect with others, and enjoy the process.
Our focus is not on being better than somebody else. It's about becoming a little better than you were yesterday.
The only person you're competing with is the version of yourself that almost didn't walk through the door.

Can I Watch First?
You can, but we'd generally encourage you to participate instead.
The hardest part isn't the class itself. It's deciding to walk through the door.
Most students discover they learn far more from joining in than they do from sitting on the sidelines watching.
If you're feeling nervous, that's completely normal. That's exactly why Fast Track exists.

What Do I Wear?
Anything comfortable that allows you to move freely.
Leggings, track pants, shorts, t-shirts, singlets, activewear, and gym clothing are all perfectly acceptable.
There is no dress code for Fast Track Introductory Ballet and no expectation that you'll arrive looking like a ballerina.
The most important thing is that you're comfortable and able to move.

Do I Need Ballet Shoes?
No.
You do not need ballet shoes to get started.
Most new students begin in regular socks (it's best to avoid Pilates grip socks with the rubber dots underneath) and many continue this way throughout Fast Track and Beginner Ballet while deciding whether ballet is something they'd like to pursue longer term.
Ballet shoes can certainly improve comfort and the overall experience, but we don't believe you should have to spend money on specialised equipment before you've even discovered whether you enjoy it.
Start with what you already have: comfortable clothing, a water bottle, and a willingness to give it a try. You can always add the fancy gear later.

What Happens In My First Class?
Nothing scary.
You'll be welcomed by your teacher, introduced to the class, and guided through everything you need to know to get started.
You are not expected to know any ballet terminology, movements, or etiquette beforehand.
Simply arrive a few minutes early, wear comfortable clothing, and we'll take care of the rest.
Everyone was new once.

Fast Track vs Beginner
Fast Track and Beginner Ballet serve different purposes.
🌱 Fast Track focuses on explaining and teaching the foundations of ballet in a beginner friendly and approachable way. We start with simple concepts and everyday language, then gradually introduce ballet terminology as your confidence grows.
🌿 Beginner Ballet follows a more traditional class structure and focuses on applying those concepts through regular practice, repetition, and dancing. Less theory. More dancing.
Most new students begin with Fast Track before progressing into Beginner Ballet, though dancers with previous experience may be comfortable starting directly in Beginner classes.

💜 Why We Do What We Do
💜 Why We Do What We Do
At its heart, SoaR was never created to produce professional dancers.
It was created because we kept meeting adults who quietly carried the same thought:
"I used to love this."
For some, it was ballet.
For others, it was movement, creativity, music, challenge, learning, or simply doing something for themselves again.
Life has a way of pulling us away from those things.
Careers, responsibilities, families, expectations, and the endless demands of adulthood often push our own interests to the bottom of the list.
SoaR exists to help people reconnect with that part of themselves.
Not through pressure, competition, or perfection, but through curiosity, exploration, community, and enjoyment.
We believe adults deserve opportunities to learn new things, challenge themselves, make mistakes, laugh, grow, and discover what they're capable of.
Because sometimes the most important step isn't becoming a dancer.
It's becoming reacquainted with the version of yourself that almost didn't walk through the door.
