FAQ's

Which class is right for me?

  • It's always best to collaborate with the teacher prior to attending your first class. You can get in touch with us via email, messenger or instagram with your questions so that we can discuss the suitability of which class. If you're feeling moderately confident and have previous experience it's usually best to start at a level lower than you think and titrate up as you become familiar with the teacher and the flow and structure of the class. Each teacher operates slightly differently and does their best to tailor the class speed and difficulty depending on who's present in the room, it's best to hold yourself back for one class than be responsible for holding back a class due to over ambition. As most schools offer a free trial this is best used to assess to find where you fit.

What should I wear to class?

It is recommended to wear something you feel comfortable wearing. We generally suggest wearing active wear or fitted clothing, as this allows the instructors to provide corrections and ensure correct technique is maintained. If you prefer, you can wear traditional ballet attire such as leotards, tights (pink ballet tihgts), pink ballet shoes and a skirt. Most importantly your ballet outfit should make you feel good when participating in class.

What if I don't have ballet shoes?

If you're trying ballet for the first time and you don't have ballet shoes just yet, that's okay. We recommend wearing a pair of socks you don't mind getting dirty for class. Wearing tights without shoes can make the floor even more slippery and cause potential injuries, and bare feet can be too sticky and prevent correct technique. Shoes can be purchased at a variety of dance stores located in Perth. We recommed getting fitted professionaly to ensure you are fitted correctly and discourage sight-unseen Amazon/eBay purchases.

Can I do a trial class?

One?! Do THREE! All new sign-ups receive 3 free class credits so you can investigate a variety of classes and find out where you fit! We will do our best to make sure we find a place for you. We also understand that not everyone wants to use the free trials so although we provide it as an option, it's not mandatory to use it and we sincerely thank all those students who wish to contribute to the school and support our journey.

How much does it cost?

  • Class prices vary depending on class duration. Currently our prices are: 60 minutes = $25.00 75 minutes = $27.50 90 minutes = $30.00 As we are a growing school however, once we hit a critical threshold of classes within our timetable we are hoping to introduce a flat-rate unlimited-class membership to make Dance more affordable for everyone. Private Lessons are also potentially available depending on teacher and hall availability but students may be required to fund both the teachers wages and hall hire. It's sometimes a good idea to collaborate with a few friends to organise semi-private lessons to share the costs between multiple students (i.e. Pas de Deux class)

What time should I arrive?

It's best to arrive at least 10 mins early to class, this ensures that you have plenty of time to sign in, place your bags/belongs down, find our space at the barre and begin to warm up prior to the start of class. You also have the opportunity to discuss any personal needs with your teacher, should you have any concerns (i.e. confidence, pre-existing injuries, early departure requirements, etc). Arriving slightly early prior to being on time to class means that class can start promptly without delays which maximises the amount of content that can be delivered to you and you peers enabling everyone to get the most value out of class.

What should I do if I'm late for class?

All students should endeavour to arrive 10 - 15 minutes prior to class starting to have a gentle warmup and discuss with the teacher any personal needs prior to the commencement of class. If you find you are running late for class however, you may still be able to enter the studio if it's still early. Simply greet the teacher and wait for them to usher you towards an available position at the barre, this is to prevent colisions with other dancers. If you are running more than 10mins late for class, the teacher may deny your entry; this is because the class is likely to have progressed to a point where it is no longer safe for you to join. If this has happens to you, please get in touch to discuss your options as we may be able to offer a credit depending on the circumstances.

Who can attend public classes?

Anyone aged 15 - 55 and beyond are welcome to join in public classes regardless of thier previous experience. We do reserve the right however to deny entry under certain circumstances to protect the experiences of the other students. Please refer to FAQ "Which class is right for me?" to determine which level to book into. Both Charlie and Emma are passionate about dance and encourage anyone with an interest to contact us, register and enrol. We do not believe that Dance should be reserved for those "Genetically Gifted Unicorns" (as we tend to refer to them) and believe anyone with a good attitude and willingness to learn and have a go can participate.

Do I need to sign a student libaility release form?

Once you have registered for a momence account you need to confirm and accept the libaility waiver form online. If this form has not been approved online you can sign a copy in the studio. Unfortunately we cannot allow you to join class unless the waiver has been signed for insurance purposes.

Will you be offering other dance styles in the future?

YES! Other styles are soon to come to SoaR Dance Studio. We started with Ballet and Irish Dancing because that's what's mostly in our DNA and what's most familiar to us; launching our own dance school involved enough uncertainty and unknowns and chaos so we didn't need the added stress of hosting classes that weren't our strongest points. Once we become more comfortable however, we are absolutely wanting to expand our timetable and include other dance styles such as, Jazz, Contemporary and Neo-Regency Dancing.
