Classical Ballet is known for it's precise movements, soft and flowing qualities and rigorous technique. It is a theatrical art form that uses the body to create symmetry and balance while conveying stories and expressing emotions. Ballet technique trains the dancers body posture, alignment, musicality and coordination, developing strength and flexibilty which enables the appearance of elegance, grace and effortless movement in space. Although ballet is often danced 'en pointe' it takes many years of training to achieve this goal and not every ballet dancer will reach that milestone. It is common for all Adult ballet classes to be danced in flat shoes and the classes can follow any style of ballet that include, Classical Ballet, Modern Ballet, Contemporary Ballet.
Irish Dance is Irelands traditional dance style that originated somewhere between the 7th and 8th Century. It's most well known by the touring Irish Performance Company "Riverdance" and Michael Flatleys "Lord of the Dance" and has signature movements and themes around quick and precisie footwork with a focus on creating different rhythmic beats. Fast and big jumps, with spins and high legs are common, all whilst keeping the upper body rigid and free from movements. There are sub categories of Irish dancing including Irish Step Dancing performed on one's own, that incorporates Traditional Choreography as well as modernised own-choreographic patterns; Social or Céilí (meaning celebration) Dances performed in groups, most of which have traditional choreography that dates back generations. Traditional Hard shoe set dances have also been around for centuries including St Patricks Day, Garden of Daisies, Job of the Journeywork and many more.
